Description
In “The Underhistory” by Kaaron Warren, readers are beckoned into a world where the line between the living and the dead blurs, and the shadows of the past cast long, sinister echoes into the present. Praised as “full of suspense and surprises” by the Guardian and hailed as “wholly unique and deeply compelling” by Esquire, Warren’s novel is a haunting journey into the heart of darkness.
At the center of the narrative is Pera Sinclair, a woman whose life has been shaped by tragedy. From the moment a pilot deliberately crashed his plane into her family’s home, claiming the lives of her loved ones, Pera has been intimately acquainted with death. Yet, amidst the ruins of her past, she rebuilds, crafting a new home on the same hallowed ground where her family perished. Sinclair House becomes more than just a dwelling—it becomes a living testament to the ghosts of her past, each room holding secrets that echo with the whispers of history.
But Pera’s world is disrupted when a group of menacing strangers arrives at her doorstep. While she recognizes one among them, the others are unknown, yet their intentions are unmistakably sinister. As she guides them through the labyrinthine corridors of Sinclair House, Pera unveils the dark truths that lie hidden within its walls, confronting not only the specters of her own past but also the dangers that threaten the present.
Warren weaves a tapestry of suspense and lyricism, drawing readers into a world where loss, self-preservation, and the eternal dance with darkness converge. With each turn of the page, “The Underhistory” reveals itself to be a chilling exploration of the human psyche, where the boundaries between life and death blur and the echoes of the past reverberate with a haunting intensity. Prepare to be spellbound by this sinister tale that lingers in the mind long after the final page is turned.

Review
Pera Sinclair was only 9 the day the pilot intentionally crashed his plane into her family home. Her parents, sisters and their friends all died. She was the only survivor. She rebuilds the house and recreates a story in each room for the victims. Including her sister who was murdered years before the plane crash. Death follows Pera so she shares her story with visitors to the house. Then on the day of her last haunted house tour a group of threatening dangerous men arrive…the house reveals more secrets..but who will survive! It’s a witty amusing story in places but also a very dark, sinister and intense thriller. I loved Pera and her incredible life! Thoroughly recommend.
